Taming the Polar Bears - continued

A lot has changed since I wrote my last blog post twenty-eight months ago.

Things got a lot worse than when I left off in October of 2010, then starting with the ringing in of 2013 things started getting a lot better. Then they got worse again. So it goes with mental health issues.

A big difference between now and when I started this blog is how I feel about medications. In my previous blog posts I was still under the impression that meds "help" or "fix" something. I learned that instead they were making me worse. I learned that there was no "chemical imbalance" for the meds to "fix". I learned the science of psychiatric medications and how they can impair and permanently damage cognitive functions. I stopped taking medications on December 29th, 2012.

I also learned that "the system" doesn't understand people like me very well and have very ineffective treatment methods. I went "off the grid" and found what I consider to be, or greatly hope to be, better methods. Whether those methods work or not is a matter of experiment and question.

I research and write about mental health disorders, mostly schizophrenia, bipolar, depression and ADD. What I hope this blog will be to whomever happens across it is a source of awareness and perspectives on those conditions.
